Direct Ask, Budget Flexibility: Horizon PTO’s 'Fill the Beak' Form

Why the campaign worked
Our Fill the Beak campaign for our Horizon Hawks succeeded by balancing a direct, transparent ask with donor flexibility. By suggesting a specific target amount to meet our budget while simultaneously offering higher giving tiers and smaller, monthly recurring options, we removed financial barriers to entry. This thoughtful combination of clarity and inclusivity empowered our community to support our mission at whatever level they felt comfortable. Our suggested target was $40 per donor and the average donation average was $55.
One thing another non-profit could repeat
Other non-profits should replicate the strategy of defining a clear "anchor" donation amount—the exact figure needed per person to hit the goal—while embedding flexible giving tiers around it. By pairing an explicit baseline ask with higher aspirational tiers and a smaller, recurring monthly micro-donation option, you eliminate giving anxiety. This simple form strategy accommodates diverse household budgets, ensures no donor feels priced out of supporting your mission, and drastically drives up overall participation rates.
