People Don’t Attend Fundraisers: How We Raised $20,460 by Creating an Experience Families Wanted

Why it worked:
The East Manatee Bulldogs used this low-cost preseason football and cheer clinic as both a fundraiser and a community engagement event. By keeping registration simple and leveraging social media, email marketing, community partnerships, and coach involvement, we sold 259 tickets and raised $20,460. The clinic provided young athletes with an opportunity to develop their skills while helping families learn more about our organization and what we offer.
One thing another nonprofit could repeat:
Make your event serve multiple purposes. Our clinic raised funds, increased community awareness, strengthened relationships with local families, and created opportunities for athletes to connect with our program. The biggest lesson was focusing on the value participants receive rather than leading with the fundraiser itself. People don’t attend a fundraiser—they attend an experience, opportunity, or cause they believe in. Build the event around that value first, and fundraising becomes the result.
