The 2025 Mocha Moms Brooklyn Holiday Party gave moms a chance to step away from their day-to-day responsibilities and be in community with other adults while also supporting the work our chapter does throughout the year. We sold 40 tickets and raised $3,140 through social media, direct outreach, and people sharing the event with others.
I think what worked is that the event felt genuine and welcoming. While Mocha Moms is a sisterhood for mothers, our public events are open to everyone, so non-members were also able to experience the sense of support, connection, and community our chapter is built on. In many ways, our public events serve as an open house where people can see what our village feels like without pressure to join.
One thing another nonprofit could take from this is to create events that feel community-centered instead of just transactional. Keeping registration simple, making people feel personally welcomed, and creating space for adults to genuinely connect made a big difference.
