What made this event successful

This event worked because it wasn't a fundraiser, it was structured as a community event, highlighting local businesses and activities, fun games and attractions for the kids, a variety of food, overall just a fun event designed to bring the local community together at our school. It’s important not to lose sight of the broader community you learn and play within, because there are people who want to share in the joy an event like this creates.

Things we’d repeat

Local businesses love to get involved in events like this, don’t assume your event is too small scale to get their attention, always ask, the worst that can happen is they say no. But from our experience, the answer is yes way more often than no.

Also from a logistics and planning perspective, don't be afraid to use multiple campaigns for the same event, this particular one was early bird sales, but we also had a separate campaign for sales on the day of, this allowed us to properly structure the timelines and sales cut-offs, and really create value to those who wanted to get a jump on the tickets early. We also used a store for concession, breaking out into different types of campaigns gave us great in-sight; from a product perspective, what was popular, what wasn't based on the sales activity and where we can tweak things for the next event. Doing this way also allowed us to segment our social media campaigns as well at different times.
