We kept our musical simple and community-first. Ticket sales were the backbone, but what really drove it was old-fashioned outreach! Handmade posters around town and word-of-mouth that got the whole neighborhood invested in something bigger than a school play. For a lot of families, this was the first time their kid had ever been on a stage, and that story sold itself.
Something other nonprofits could really benefit from are that you shouldn't underestimate physical presence. In a world of email blasts and social media, hanging posters around your community still works, especially in lower-income areas where not everyone is online. It meets people where they are and makes the event feel like it belongs to the whole community, specifically not just our school.
